The depths of fandom...

...after recording GMTV for an appearance of lovely Douglas Henshall, I am now obliged to watch/record The Weakest Link since there will be a NewWho special the Friday before the new series starts...

Oh boys, the things I do for you...

The office I occasionally work at is very close to the studios where GMTV is recorded (amongst other things) and my colleagues and I often pop out for lunch or post work drinks to the pub opposite - where you get a great view of the exit to the studios.

On Thursday there was a large group of women hanging around - pressing their noses to the glass of reception - and holding cameras in their hands as they hung around near the gates. All lunchtime, the sport in the pub was to try and work out who they were looking for. One woman had a helpful t-shirt telling us that 'ID fans do it 24/7'. We still had no clue.
We weren't even helped when a car finally drove out - the tinted windows temporarily wound down to show an over-tanned, young man wave, sign a few autographs...and pose for photos for 30 seconds before driving off down the road.

Our curiosity got the better of us and, as the women came over to the pub - mission obviously accomplished - we had to ask who they'd been waiting for?

'Il Divo', they gushed...(one of my colleagues was clearly clueless - I'd at least heard of them despite being unable to pick them out of a crowd). They were very excitable and started telling us about how they follow the boys whenever they're in the country - even being at those gates at 4am when it's a GMTV appearance...(and they'd travelled from Yorkshire, you know).

I'm very pleased to hear that your fandom merely stretches to the pain of recording the whole programme...or does it?

In a strange echo of a previous event, I saw that Douglas Henshall on Old Compton Street yesterday. He's had a haircut. I feel slightly guilty that I didn't stop him and ask for an autograph for you, but he was walking fast with a 'Yes, you probably recognise me, but please don't bother me because I'm on my way somewhere' expression.

Five minutes later, I saw that Jamelia. She's very thin and very gorgeous. I didn't stop her either.

Sarah: preserve us from ID fans!

Stu: hee hee. I think he will have had the haircut as he's about to start filming (French Film). And I have already gotten my share of autographs from him, I'm fine with you not having stopped him for me! It must be a bit weird being famous and getting stopped since we all just often want to get on and get where we are going!

As for Jameila, is she very gorgeous BECAUSE she is very thin? Hmmm...

Nah, there is no connection between the thinness and the gorgeousness.
