Hello,I read your comment on PooterGeek and, though you went into more detail than me, I think we substantially agree on teaching vs. research.I did my PhD at Nottingham, which is a very good research university, but the way that they'd tolerate the worst of teachers, as long as they produced sufficient publications, used to drive me mad. Within the one small department I knew, they had at least two who were complete dead-weights.As to the quality of research writing - I always perceived a lot of jargon hiding the lack of content, and a continual postponement of real meaning. I felt like writing insulting letters to the author of every article I read.
