Public voting not always bad

Three awards for Doctor Who. The collective hysteria and public geekery continues (yeah!) despite John's previous criticisms at Counago and Spaves about it bringing guilty pleasures out into the open.

Woohoo! The public redeems itself. :)

Waiting for the new Doctor here on BBC America. Seems we are getting Blackpool with a short delay, where is Who?

Christ, a whole country of them. I suppose now positional status will be even harder to acquire given that it's no longer so "unique to be geek."

The geek backlash begins here. All power to the lack of imagination!

I guess its like that thing where you only like a band until EVERYBODY likes them; at which point you declare that they've clearly sold out and what you loved them for is no longer what they are (amazing how one can justify geekery).

Besides, is geekiness still possible when large numbers are involved? I would say yes, because its still not a majority phenomenon: its just that geeks/nerds tend to be quite vocal now rather than hiding it away. That fad may pass:

BUFFY: Wow. That was boring.

XANDER: I don't feel that boring covers it.

BUFFY: No, boring falls short.

WILLOW: Even I was bored. And I'm a science nerd.

BUFFY: Don't say that.

WILLOW: I'm not ashamed. It's the computer age. Nerds are in. They're still in, right?

Ah, but in the computer age, it's cool NOT to be a geek. Or, to put it another way:

Homer: So I realized that being with my family is more important
than being cool.

Bart: Dad, what you just said was powerfully uncool.

Homer: You know what the song says: "It's hip to be square."

Lisa: That song is so lame.

Homer: So lame that it's... cool?

Bart and Lisa: No.

Marge: Am I cool, kids?

Bart and Lisa: No.

Marge: Good. I'm glad. And that's what makes me cool—not caring, right?

Bart and Lisa: No.

Marge: Well, how the hell do you be cool? I feel like we've tried
everything here.

Homer: Wait, Marge. Maybe if you're truly cool, you don't need tobe told you're cool.

Bart: Well, sure you do.

Lisa: How else would you know?
