Hamlet at the RSC - sold out? selling out?

Okay, I don't get this. About 4-6 weeks ago a friend phoned up the RSC direct and was told there were NO TICKETS AT ALL LEFT FOR ANY PERFORMANCES for Hamlet at the RSC Stratford.

Now Outpost Gallifrey's news seems to think it is merely 'selling out' (as in not sold out yet).

HUH!?

And Tennant at least, according to his turn on Jonathan Ross this weekend, seems pretty sure about doing the London transfer rather than 'pencilled' as the news piece suggests.

I'm just confused.

And still vividly recalling Susan Hill's whisper that Tennant was doing Hamlet at the RSC a good while ahead of the news filtering out and then being announced. Could she perhaps confirm the certainty of tickets and/or the transfer?

The RSC's London transfers have done so well that I can't imagine them not signing all the cast up at the start.

That went a bit convoluted. Let's try again, in two sentences. The RSC's London transfers have done extremely well. I'm sure Hamlet was always planned to transfer.

Yeah, I can't imagine they wouldn't transfer. *holds onto ticket tightly*

Lisa, this is a complete change of subject but I can't find an email address. If you like reading novels, such as "His Dark Materials" or any other fantasy; and if you feel for the 'underdog' who gets mistreated by society, well, that's why I wrote "Outcasts Of Skagaray". If you want to see what it is really like and about, please go to www.threeswans.com.au and check the sample chapters. I would be delighted if you read and commented. Best wishes in any case. My blog is http://threeswans.blogspot.com if you ever want to visit.

"London transfer"?

Does that mean the whole show is being transferred from Stratford to London? Or is it still on in Stratford?

*is thick*

In the Jonathan Ross interview, DT said he thought they'd be bringing it to London about "December time". I don't think that interferes in any way with the Stratford run, does it?

Now, wouldn't it be nice if they filmed this production? Seeing as so many people want to see it....

Well Stratford is definitely sold out, because a very kind and lovely friend was going to buy me tickets. She's got me Love's Labour's Lost instead, which is nearly as good...

I can't imagine DT's Hamlet NOT coming to London. They'd be mad not to...

having failed to get to Stratford and failed dismally to get tickets for the Globe, I plan to be first in the queue when it comes to the big smoke!

Outpost Gallifrey was probably cautious and didn't want to discourage people from trying to get tickets, but Hamlet has been sold out for months. Since January, the RSC website had only standing seats. The last couple of months they don't have those either. The box office is selling the odd returned ticket. Pair of tickets on ebay - especially good seats - are going for £600 upwards.

As for the London transfer, again OG is erring on the side of caution because RSC hasn't announced yet, but everyone (incl DT, Patrick Stewart, and Greg Doran - the director) have said is happening. Even the RSC box office - when asked about it - said that they 'll start selling tickets some time in autumn. But because the London run will be short - 6 weeks maybe, the tickets will be snapped up by members, so if you are really interested it's worth getting an RSC membership that gives you advance booking.

The RSC has just confirmed its London season will include Hamlet, at the Novello Theatre from 3 December to 10 January. Competing with the Old Vic Panto! To be or not to be, that is the question! Oh yes it is! Polonius! He's behind you!

Ahem.

No word yet on when tickets will go on sale.

Tickets for the London transfer go on sale on 16 June for RSC members and 12 September for the public.

Poly, thanks though it seems from talking to my friend that there are 'members' and 'members'... she's associate which meant for the Stratford run that there was about a 2 week delay on booking becoming open to her. Let's hope that gives us time (she's already been on the phone to me reassuring me not to panic! Hard not to though when prior committments only mean there is one saturday in the whole run we could go!)
