The movie that changed your life

Great post on Time Bandits, but even better some cracking remarks and films mentioned in the comments box.

For me, its Casablanca - greater love I suppose... or perhaps (and this is well cheesy) Dead Poets Society - to seize the day.

Ummm BMX Bandits. First time I realised the 'girls' could be... well... really really nice to look at..

Years later I found out it was Nicole Kidman, regression set in.

Couldn't get the comments box to pen, but never mind.

Movies that changed my life. Hmm. No "Road To Damascus" (with or without Crosby/Hope/Lamour) but "Nanook of the North" probably opened my eyes to the possibilities of the documentary. Even knowing now that Flaherty staged a lot of it, it's still a blast. "Born Free" was the first film I saw at the cinema alone. "Silent Running" the first one I cried at. The Tarkovsky "Solaris" the only film I have ever left before the end because of sheer boredom.

Not sure any of them have changed my life, really. The first film I saw that made me realise that the universe is divided into cineastes and non-cineastes was Bunuel's "El Angel Exterminador". I saw it on TV and failed dismally to interest anyone else at school in it. So maybe that would be the one. Great film too.

EineKleineRob - Ah Bunuel! Brilliant. I had the mickey took out of me for weeks because a colleague of mine in accountancy saw I had a book on Surrealist cinema on my desk and couple of rented Bunuel films...

Oh yeah: HolyHosesRob - of COURSE Buffy changed my life... is TV better than movies? It can be, but maybe that's another question...
